About Parole in Place Law
New Parole in Place law allows 500,000+ immigrants to fix legal status here in the U.S. without having to go back to their home country and with a work permit. A new executive order passed recently by President Biden, allows certain people who are married to US Citizens and have been in the US for at least 10 years to file a special application called "Parole in place". This is hugely significant because otherwise the only way to get a green card through your spouse requires an extremely long 4-5 year waiver process and a departure back to your home country. Once you are "paroled" into the US you are now allowed to file an adjustment of status application here in the US without having to leave. The process currently is now significantly quicker and comes with a work permit!
Immigration law is constantly changing and technical. Even these new laws will likely be challenged in court by conservative judges who try to stop any attempt at immigration reform (see DACA and DAPA for recent examples).
